Summer CleanTox Tips- #6 - Avocados (and a shiny hair fix)

I have talked about my favorite breakfast/snack Avocado toast, and if you follow me on Instagram you would see how I tend to always incorporate Avocados into my diet. I add it to salads, the toast, guacamole is a summer staple and of course and just straight out of the "shell" with some lemon juice and sea salt.

The point is, I love avocados and truly we all should. This high absorbing food has a wide variety of benefits ranging from:

  • anti-inflammatory

  • nutrients such as phytosterols, carotenoid antioxidants

  • non-carotenoid antioxidants including vitamins C and E

  • minerals manganese, selenium, and zinc,

  • omega-3 fatty acids and polyhydroxylated fatty alcohols (PSA)s.

  • high in Carotenoids which aids in food absorption.

  • promote a healthy heart, supporting cardiovascular health,

  • promote blood sugar regulation

  • cancer prevention benefits.

Not only are avocados good for your body when you eat them but they are also great for your skin and hair!

Dry, damaged hair can benefit from treatments containing avocado. Avocados contain beneficial levels of Vitamins A, D and E and oils shown to provide hydration to hair. Masks sold in stores can be costly, but you can make your own avocado mask at home with ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen. An avocado mask can be used once or twice a month for deep conditioning, depending on how damaged your hair.

So today, I share with you a recipe, but one for good hair!

Avocado Hair Mask

Ingredients:

  • Flesh of one ripe avocado

  • 1 T honey

  • 2 T olive oil or sweet almond oil

Instructions:

Mash the flesh of the avocado in a bowl with a fork, then add 1 T honey and oil and mash until mixed well. You want the mixture to become smooth but thick.

Next, hop in the shower and give you hair a good rinse. Towel dry and then slather the mixture onto your hair. Let it sit for 20-25 minutes and then rinse and style as usual.

You will have soft, shiny hair in no time! Trust me!
